A new end-to-end tool is now available in the staging environment in beta: https://bcl-orders-staging.broadinstitute.org/. This feature allows users to simulate samples moving through to completion and can be used to test pulling order/sample statuses, retrieving deliverables, and testing successful configuration of webhooks.
Using the E2E Tool
To use this tool, you will first need to create an order as you normally would. The UI staging environment includes a tool that populates all required information. Find and select the fill button (shown below) at the top of the screen to populate pseudo data for more seamless testing.
Once the order is created, locate the Advanced tab at the top of the order summary page. This will redirect you to the Simulate Order Flow page.
Depending on your testing scenarios, you can either choose to Run All The Steps In Order or individually simulate each step. Running all steps will simulate all the backend steps in the order, including
- Receiving the sample
- Accessioning the sample
- Technical data complete
- Delivery
- This will populate a dataset with pseudo data and report files.
Each of these steps will also trigger all relevant webhook notifications.

Visualization of Progress
Progress of each step to the completion is shown in a visualization bar next to the step title. Please note, some steps may take a few minutes to complete, so do not refresh your page during this time.
An overview of event history, consistent with the naming convention for orders/samples in the UI, is shown at the bottom of the page.
A note about interpretation orders: The tool will attempt to use a previous report from the same test type in the same project. If one exists, it will complete the order without any manual invention; otherwise, it will create a new case. New cases must be approved before the results can be delivered.
